We have been restoring film for families, universities, archives and more for almost two decades. You can trust Cinepost to give your home movie transfer the care it deserves and preserve it in the best quality possible so it can be enjoyed for generations. All our film transfers benefit from a real time operator who will personally supervise the transfer of your film while performing color correction to achieve the best possible picture.
We use the same professional grade telecine equipment for home movie transfer projects that we use to restore films for NASA and Turner Classic Movies. Your film will be scanned on our Rank Cintel Turbo and will benefit from our Wetgate system. CinePost is home to one of the only wet scanning systems in the country. Not only does the wet system function as a real time film cleaner, removing dirt & debris, it also reduces the appearance of scratches. In some cases we are able to completely conceal scratches. This process does not damage the film. As it is being scanned the film passes through the Wetgate, which is a fluid filled chamber where the actual scanning takes place. The film is only “wet” for a second or two. The scratches are filled in by the fluid so that as the light passes through it does not refract, the result is that the scratch is concealed or reduced in severity.
Our telecine machine puts out a very high resolution signal which we can use to produce a variety of video formats depending on your needs. A popular choice is DV, short for digital video, which offers a convenient file size and a wide range of compatibility across different editing applications. If your goal is to have standard definition DVD’s made from your film this is format we would typically choose. If you plan on doing more in depth editing with the files, or simply want the highest resolution possible, you may want to consider 10-bit uncompressed files or a high definition film transfer. A 10-bit uncompressed transfer represents the highest resolution available for standard definition.
If you do opt for a high definition transfer we can create Blu-Ray discs for you to enjoy on your HD setup at home. We have done many home movie transfer projects in high definition, just check out our examples to see the quality we provide. If you will be editing, we have sample files for you to test on your system to ensure compatibility. Fill out our online form or give us a call with any questions you may have about your home movie transfer.
